Double bass separator

Double bass mode targets the acoustic string instrument, including the musical line you may know as upright bass. It returns Double bass and Other, using a dedicated MVSEP instrument category instead of treating every low-frequency sound as the same source. This distinction matters in a mix containing a piano left hand, kick drum, low cello or electronic bass alongside the instrument. The practical question depends on the arrangement. In a walking line, you may want to hear note order and how long each pluck lasts. In an orchestral passage, the important detail may be how the bowed bass supports a cadence or joins the cellos. Pick a passage where those decisions are audible, then compare the target with the original before making a transcription or rehearsal track. Listen to the beginning and end of each low note as carefully as its pitch. A recognizable fundamental with a missing attack can hide timing, while a clean attack with a shortened decay can misrepresent the groove. Shared low harmonics may create leakage, and the model does not separate several bassists into individual tracks. Use headphones or speakers that reproduce the low end clearly, at a comfortable level.
