TUNENOODLE / Stem splitter / Strings
Cello separator
Extract cello audio to follow low melodies, hear bow phrasing, and compare the instrument’s bass and melodic roles.
Cello separator
A cello can anchor the harmony in one passage and carry the melody in the next. Cello mode is useful when you want to follow that instrument across both roles instead of collecting everything that happens in the bass register. It returns Cello and Other using MVSEP’s dedicated cello target. A low piano note, bass guitar and cello may occupy similar pitches, but they are different sources; separation depends on more than simply filtering low frequencies. For study, choose a phrase that moves from accompaniment into an exposed melody. Listen for the shape of the bow change and the continuity of a held note before focusing on pitch. The stem can make a cello line easier to rehearse or compare with a new arrangement. It does not identify bow direction, produce a score, or split several cellists into individual recordings. The most revealing checks are often transitions: arco into pizzicato, low support into upper melody, or a cello line doubled by double bass. Some attacks or room tails may appear in Other. Compare both outputs before deciding how much of the original cello to lower in a backing track, especially when the surrounding harmony shares its sustained notes.
How to separate your track
- 01
Select Cello and separate the original recording.
- 02
Compare a low passage, a melodic passage and any change of playing technique.
- 03
Keep the useful phrase for study or balance the target against Other for rehearsal.
What this mode gives you
| Parameter / option | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Start with the right source | Keep both low and upper-register phrases in the first test, with their natural decays. Avoid boosting bass before upload, since it can emphasize piano and kick alongside the cello. |
| Good for | Follow a cello melody that emerges from an accompanying bass figure. Compare sustained bow phrasing with a plucked section in the same piece. Reduce cello in a rehearsal mix while checking that the harmonic foundation remains usable. |
| Listen for | Does the cello remain continuous through register changes? Are pizzicato attacks present without extra kick or piano transients? Does a doubled low line carry too much double bass, or lose the cello’s upper tone? |
A few useful answers
No. Cello targets the instrument, while Bass targets a different musical category. A cello melody can extend well above the low end.
Your next step
All modesBowed string separator
Separate the bowed string section from a recording to study voicing, shape an arrangement, or prepare a string-free backing track.
Violin separator
Extract a violin-focused stem for learning melody, comparing articulation, and rehearsing with the remaining arrangement.
Viola separator
Bring the viola’s inner voice forward to study harmony, passing lines and the balance of a string arrangement.
Double bass separator
Isolate the double bass for studying walking lines, orchestral foundations and the attack-to-decay shape of low notes.
